Gir National Park is one of the oldest national park also know as Sasan Gir situated in Junagadh State Gujarat India. A traveller can get information from tourist booking centre in Ahmedabad and It is famous for Asiatic lions and Leopard sightseeing is also good. The park consists of 1412 sq. km of broad-leaved forest, flora, scrub jungle, grasslands and rocky hills. There is large water Kamleshwar Dam that are good for Marsh Crocodiles, Reptiles and Migrated & Local State birds.
Fauna of Gir National park
As per recent counting by the forest department in July this year GIR has nearly 650 odd Asiatic lions included 180 cubs between one and two years of age surrounding forests national park Amreli, Somnath-Gir, Bhavnagar.
This is record high number of lions (Big Cats) in the state of Gujarat since 1936 as per the available records.
As per the Gir National Park checklist -it has over 250 species of birds along with that 40 species of reptiles and amphibians, striped hyena, jungle cat, rusty-spotted cat, langur recorded in the sanctuary.
